Why can charges occur after uninstalling an app, and how do trials and billing cycles factor in?
How Discounty's free trial, billing cycles and downgrades work, and how to avoid a charge you don't want.
Shopify bills for all apps, including Discounty, as part of your Shopify invoice. Knowing when a charge is created helps you avoid one you don't expect, for example right after a trial ends or after uninstalling. Below you'll find how the free trial works, how billing cycles work, and what to do before your trial ends if you don't want to continue.
How the free trial works
When you install Discounty, you start on the free Starter plan. You aren't charged for Starter.
Paid plans (Lite, Essential, Discounty and Ultimate) come with a 3-day free trial. The trial length is shown on the Plans page.
You can use the trial once per store, not once per plan. If you downgrade, you can't start a free trial again. The app warns you: "After downgrading, you won't be able to start a free trial again."
The first charge is created on the day your trial ends. If you subscribe to a paid plan when your store has no trial left, the charge starts right away.
The Plans page also shows a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you have a question about a charge, contact our support team.
How billing cycles work
Each paid subscription has its own billing cycle, which starts when your trial ends or when you subscribe without a trial. On the Plans page you can choose Pay monthly or Pay yearly. A yearly plan is billed once a year. The charge for each cycle is created on the day the cycle starts, and then appears in your Shopify admin under Settings > Billing, on your upcoming invoice or an open one.
Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel a charge that was already created for the current cycle, and the charge doesn't depend on whether you used the app during that cycle.
How to avoid a charge before your trial ends
If you don't want to continue on a paid plan, do this before your trial ends:
If you have any active Bulk price editor campaigns you want to stop, deactivate them first so product prices return to their original values.
Open Plans in the Discounty app and click Downgrade on the Starter plan, or uninstall the app using Safe uninstall.
After you downgrade, you have 1 hour to deactivate or edit campaigns that go beyond the Starter plan's limits. After that, extra campaigns are moved to Blocked automatically. See Is there a limit on the number of campaigns I can create?

Frequently asked questions
Does uninstalling an app guarantee there will be no further charges?
Uninstalling stops future charges, but it doesn't cancel a charge that was already created at the start of the current billing cycle, even if you uninstall shortly after your trial ends.
Should I wait until the end of my billing cycle to uninstall?
You can. If you're on a paid plan, the Safe uninstall page shows how many days are left in your current billing cycle, so you can keep using your plan and uninstall on the last day.
What should I do if I was charged after uninstalling and not using the app?
Contact our support team through the app, and we'll review your case.
