How do I see which Discounty campaign applied to an order?

Let Discounty add the campaign that applied to an order, right on the order in Shopify. See how to allow or remove the permission.

Order attribution lets Discounty record, on each Shopify order, which Discounty campaign applied to it, so you can see which campaign drove an order without leaving Shopify. It is optional: you choose whether to turn it on.

What Discounty adds to an order

When a Discounty campaign applies to an order, Discounty writes a "Discounty campaigns" order metafield on that order in Shopify. It has one entry per campaign that applied, with the campaign's ID, type and name.

  • Only the campaign ID, name and type are added. No customer data is shared.

  • Orders that no Discounty campaign applied to are left untouched.

  • Discounty adds this information to new orders once Order attribution is enabled.

The permission Discounty needs

To add this information to an order, Discounty needs an optional permission from Shopify to edit orders (write_orders). Until you allow it, Order attribution shows as "Not enabled" and nothing is added to your orders. Allowing it is your choice and you can do it at any time.

Option 1: Allow it from the Home popup

On Home, the popup "Add campaign info to your orders?" asks for the permission. Select Allow to continue to Shopify's permission request, or Not now to close it. If you close it, you can turn Order attribution on later in Settings.

Option 2: Allow it from the banner

While the permission isn't granted, the banner "See which campaign drove each order" appears on Home, Campaigns, Analytics and each campaign's analytics page. Select Allow on the banner to open Shopify's permission request. The banner disappears once Discounty confirms the permission.

Option 3: Allow it from Settings

Go to Settings → Order attribution access. The Order attribution row shows Not enabled with an Allow button. Select it and approve the request in Shopify. When it works you see the message "Order attribution enabled" and the row changes to Enabled.

How do I check whether Order attribution is on?

Open Settings → Order attribution access. Enabled means Discounty adds campaign info to new orders that a Discounty campaign applied to. Not enabled means the permission hasn't been granted.

How do I remove the permission?

You can remove the permission at any time in Shopify admin. After that, Order attribution shows as Not enabled in Settings and Discounty stops adding campaign info to new orders. You can allow it again whenever you like.

What if Order attribution doesn't turn on?

"Permission wasn't granted. You can enable this anytime."

You declined Shopify's request. Nothing was added to your orders. Select Allow in Settings → Order attribution access whenever you want to try again.

"Couldn't open Shopify's permission request. Please try again."

Shopify's request didn't open. This is not the same as declining. Select Allow again. If it happened on the Home popup, the popup closes for this visit and you can retry from Settings › Order attribution access.

"We couldn't confirm the permission with Shopify."

Discounty couldn't confirm the permission after the request. The status shows Status unknown. Select Try again in Settings → Order attribution access or on the banner.

"Open Discounty inside Shopify admin to grant this permission."

The permission can only be requested while Discounty is open inside Shopify admin. Open Discounty from your Shopify admin and follow the steps above.

Does Order attribution share customer data?

No. Only the campaign ID, name and type are added to the order. No customer data is shared.
