How to connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app to Discounty?

Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app to Discounty to ask about your campaigns and results from the app you already use.

From the support teamUpdated 4 min read

Discounty can connect to the AI app you already use, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex. Once connected, you can ask about your campaigns and their results right in that app, alongside your other work, without opening Discounty.

This article explains what an AI app connection is, what it's useful for, and how to connect, manage and remove one. It takes about 2 minutes, and you only do it once per app.

What is an AI app connection?

AI apps like Claude and ChatGPT can connect to other tools through a standard called MCP (Model Context Protocol). Discounty has its own MCP server. When you connect it, your AI app can read your Discounty campaigns and their results and use them to answer your questions.

The connection is read-only. AI apps can read your campaigns and their results, but they can't create, change or delete anything, and you can remove a connection at any time.

What can I use it for?

  • Check performance quickly. "Which campaign made the most revenue last month?"

  • Catch problems early. "Do any of my active campaigns conflict?"

  • Plan with real data. "Help me plan a Black Friday promotion." The AI app sees what you've run before and how it performed.

  • Combine with your other work. If you already use an AI app for reports, emails or planning, it can pull in your Discounty campaigns without copy-pasting.

AI app connections are available on every Discounty plan.

AI apps, Lumos or Sidekick?

Use an AI app connection to ask about your campaigns from the AI app you already work in. To build or change campaigns with AI, use Lumos inside Discounty. It fills in the campaign for you to review and save. For questions about your whole Shopify store, use Shopify Sidekick in your Shopify admin.

Before you start

  • Open Discounty from your Shopify admin. If you open it another way, Settings → AI apps shows "Open Discounty from your Shopify admin to connect an AI app."

  • Go to Settings → AI apps and open How to connect an AI app. It has one tab per app: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex and Other apps. After you connect your first app, the guide folds behind Show steps.

Connect Claude

  1. Copy the Discounty server URL with Copy.

  2. In Claude, open Customize → Connectors.

  3. Choose + Add, then Add custom connector.

  4. Name it Discounty, paste the server URL and choose Add.

  5. Choose Connect. Claude opens a Discounty page with an 8-character code.

  6. Enter that code in Connection code in Settings → AI apps and choose Approve.

Works on every Claude plan, on the web and in the desktop app. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector first in Organization settings.

Connect ChatGPT

  1. Copy the Discounty server URL with Copy.

  2. In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, choose + and then Add custom MCP server.

  3. Name it Discounty, paste the server URL and choose OAuth for authentication.

  4. Read the warning, tick I understand and want to continue and choose Create.

  5. Choose Connect. ChatGPT opens a Discounty page with an 8-character code.

  6. Enter that code in Connection code in Settings → AI apps and choose Approve.

Needs a paid ChatGPT plan and works on the web only. If you don't see the option, turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT settings, or ask your workspace admin to allow custom apps.

Connect Claude Code

  1. Copy the Terminal command with Copy and run it in your terminal.

  2. Start Claude Code, run /mcp, choose discounty and then Authenticate.

  3. Your browser opens a Discounty page with an 8-character code.

  4. Enter that code in Connection code in Settings → AI apps and choose Approve.

The command adds Discounty to the current project. Add --scope user to use it in every project.

Connect Codex

  1. Copy the Terminal command with Copy and run it in your terminal.

  2. Then run codex mcp login discounty.

  3. Your browser opens a Discounty page with an 8-character code.

  4. Enter that code in Connection code in Settings → AI apps and choose Approve.

Codex saves this in ~/.codex/config.toml, so the Codex IDE extension can use Discounty too.

Connect another AI app

  1. Copy the Discounty server URL with Copy.

  2. In your AI app, add a new remote MCP server (sometimes called a connector or integration).

  3. Paste the server URL. If it asks how to sign in, choose OAuth. You don't need an API key.

  4. Sign in. Your app opens a Discounty page with an 8-character code.

  5. Enter that code in Connection code in Settings → AI apps and choose Approve.

Works with any app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth, such as Cursor or VS Code.

Approve only codes you started yourself

When you enter a code, Discounty asks you to confirm, for example "Connect Claude to Discounty?", and shows that the app wants read-only access to your Discounty data. Only approve if you started this connection yourself, and make sure the code is the one shown in your own AI app right now. Never approve a code someone sent you — Discounty will never ask you for one. If you didn't start it, choose Deny.

Manage and remove connections

Your connected apps are listed under Connected AI apps in Settings → AI apps, with who connected each one and when it was last used. To disconnect an app, choose Remove. It loses access to your Discounty data right away. To use it again, connect it again.

Troubleshooting

"This code is wrong, expired, or already used."

Check the code in your AI app and enter it again. If it has expired, start the connection again in your AI app to get a new code.

"Too many attempts. Wait a few minutes and try again."

Wait a few minutes, then enter the code again.

"AI connections are unavailable right now. Try again shortly."

Try again in a little while. If it keeps happening, contact our support team.
