How do I use Lumos, the AI assistant in Discounty?
Ask Lumos (formerly Discounty Expert) about your campaigns, or describe a promotion and have it fill in the campaign for you.
Lumos (formerly Discounty Expert) is the AI assistant built into Discounty. You can ask it about your own store in plain language — which campaigns are running, how they're performing, what promotion to run next — and you can describe the discount you want and have Lumos fill in the campaign for you. It knows your shop and it knows discounting, so you don't have to hunt for the right setting. You stay in control: nothing is created, changed, or removed until you confirm it yourself.
What you need
Plan: available on every Discounty plan. What Lumos can build for you still follows your plan — if a setting isn't included in your plan, it can't turn that setting on for you.
Requirement: open Discounty from your Shopify admin. If you open the app another way, Lumos shows "Lumos can't use this sign-in. Open Discounty from your Shopify admin to chat here."
Where to find Lumos
There are two ways in:
The Ask Lumos button at the end of the page header. Click it to open the chat panel on the right side of the app. On small screens it shows only the icon. It shows a loader while Lumos is working and a dot when a reply is waiting. When a page has several header buttons, the extra ones are under More actions; on the Campaign page, Activate/Deactivate sits right after Preview. Drag the panel's left edge to make it wider, use Expand to fill the window, Collapse to go back to a side panel, and Close to close it.
The Ask Lumos card built into the page you're on. It shows a few suggested questions for what you're doing there, and appears on Home, Campaigns, Plans, Campaign types, every campaign editor, Analytics, Customization, every widget editor, Help, and Safe uninstall. Type what you want — for example, "20% off everything this weekend" — or tap one of the suggestions, and Lumos replies right in the chat panel.
When you open the panel with nothing in it, Lumos shows a greeting for the time of day and six starter prompts you can tap to get going. Type your own question in the Ask Lumos anything… box at the bottom.
What you can ask about your store
Ask the way you'd ask a teammate. Lumos can answer questions such as:
Which discount campaigns are running right now — your currently active campaigns.
How your campaigns are performing — for example, "How are my current campaigns performing this week?"
What to run next — for example, "Suggest a promotion I could run for slow-moving products."
Why something isn't working the way you expect — for example, why a free-shipping discount isn't applying.
Setting up a campaign with Lumos
Describe the promotion you want, and Lumos opens the matching Discounty campaign form with your settings already filled in. You review the form and save it yourself.
This works for every Discounty campaign type — Bulk price editor, Quantity discount, Cart goal, Buy X Get Y, Shipping discount, and Advanced discount code.
For example, tell Lumos "20% off all t-shirts until Sunday" and Discounty opens the campaign form filled in with that discount, ready for you to check and save. The fields Lumos filled in are highlighted so you can see at a glance what it changed.
Nothing goes live until you save. If you see the form filled in but no campaign in your list, that's expected — the campaign is created when you save it, not when Lumos fills the form.
Managing campaigns you already have
You can also ask Lumos to activate, deactivate, or delete a campaign you already have. It doesn't do this quietly: Discounty opens its normal confirmation dialog for that action, and the change only happens once you confirm it there. If you close the dialog without confirming, nothing changes.
Setting up your widgets
Widgets are what show your offer to shoppers on your storefront — the tiered discount table, the cart savings, the countdown timers, the Buy X Get Y pop-up, and the shipping progress bar. You can ask Lumos to set these up too, and it fills in the widget settings for you to review and save.
This matters more than it sounds: a discount with its widget switched off still applies at checkout, but shoppers never see it advertised on the page. If you ask Lumos to build a campaign, it's worth asking whether the matching widget is on.
Managing your conversations
The panel header has a few controls:
New conversation — start a fresh chat.
Expand / Collapse and Close — change the panel size or close it.
The ⋯ menu (More options) — holds Recent conversations, to reopen an earlier chat, and Temporary chat. Turn Temporary chat on and the conversation won't be saved. The input area shows "This conversation won't be saved." while it's on.
You can also tell Lumos when an answer was useful with the Helpful and Not helpful buttons under a reply, and add a comment about what was off. This feedback is how Lumos gets better.
Seeing what Lumos is doing
While Lumos works on your request, it lists each step in plain words, such as "Checking your campaigns…", "Reading your products…" or "Drafting your discount…". When it's done, the steps collapse to "Worked for" and the time it took, for example "Worked for 12s". Use Show details to open the list again.
If a step doesn't go through, the list says so: that step is marked "failed". Conversations you reopen later show their steps too.
What Lumos does not do
It never creates or publishes a campaign on its own. It fills in the form; you review and save.
It never activates, deactivates, or deletes a campaign without your confirmation. Every one of those actions goes through Discounty's own confirmation dialog.
It covers Discounty and discounts only. For your theme, orders, products, or Shopify settings, use Shopify Sidekick in your Shopify admin instead. See How do I use Discounty with Shopify Sidekick? for what Sidekick can do with your Discounty discounts. To ask about your campaigns from Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app, see How to connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app to Discounty?.
It can make mistakes. The panel says so: "Lumos can make mistakes. Review campaigns before publishing." Read what it filled in before you save.
Troubleshooting
"You've reached today's message limit for Lumos. It resets at midnight UTC."
There's a limit on how many messages you can send in a day. You can carry on after midnight UTC.
"Lumos can't use this sign-in. Open Discounty from your Shopify admin to chat here."
The chat needs you to open Discounty from inside your Shopify admin. Go to your Shopify admin, open Discounty from your apps, and the panel will work.
"Connection issue" or "We lost the connection to Lumos."
Wait a moment and try again. If it keeps happening, the message includes a Reference code — send that to our support team and it tells us exactly what went wrong.
"Reapply window expired."
An action Lumos proposed sat too long before you ran it. Ask Lumos again and it will redo it.
The form didn't fill in.
Reload the Discounty page and ask again. If Lumos says an action "isn't available on this page", it needs to be on the campaign or widget page for that action — ask it to take you there first.
Talking to a person
If Lumos can't solve something, or you just ask for a person, it opens a conversation with our support team for you and passes along what you were trying to do — so you don't have to explain it twice.
Next steps
Open Lumos with the Ask Lumos button in the page header of Discounty and try asking what's running in your store right now, or describe a promotion you'd like to run and let it fill in the campaign for you. If you have any questions, our support team is here to help.
