Will my Discounty discounts work in ChatGPT, Gemini, and other UCP-based AI checkouts?
How each Discounty campaign type behaves in ChatGPT, Gemini, and other UCP-based AI checkouts, including Advanced discount codes.
Discounts created by Discounty campaigns apply automatically when your customers check out through AI shopping agents — ChatGPT Instant Checkout, Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and any future agent built on Shopify's Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). The one exception is Advanced discount code campaigns: the customer (or the agent acting for them) still has to supply the code, the same way they would at a normal checkout — UCP lets customers submit a discount code inside the chat, and Discounty picks it up from there. No other setup is required on your side.
Note: this article is about shoppers buying from your store through AI agents. To use AI yourself to manage or ask about your discounts, see How do I use Lumos, the AI assistant in Discounty? and How to connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app to Discounty?.
Campaign type behavior in agent checkouts
The table below summarizes how each Discounty campaign type behaves when a customer checks out through an AI agent.
Campaign type | Mechanism | In an agent checkout |
|---|---|---|
Bulk price editor (Price rule) | Updates the product's price and compare-at price in Shopify | Automatic — the agent sees the sale price during product discovery, before checkout starts |
Quantity discount | Shopify Function at checkout | Automatic — applies once the cart meets the condition |
Cart goal | Shopify Function at checkout | Automatic — applies once the cart meets the condition |
Buy X Get Y | Shopify Function at checkout | Automatic — applies once the cart meets the condition |
Shipping discount | Shopify Function at checkout | Automatic — applies at checkout |
Advanced discount code | Shopify Function triggered by a discount code | Needs the code — the customer has to give the agent the code to submit; UCP supports code entry inside the chat, but it isn't applied automatically |
A quick note on agentic commerce
In January 2026, Shopify and Google announced UCP, an open standard that lets AI agents in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot discover products and complete checkout on a customer's behalf. These agents route the transaction through Shopify's standard checkout — governed by UCP for the structured exchange and the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) for payment authorization — so anything that already works in your Shopify checkout works in agentic checkout too.
How it works
Discounty implements every campaign type using two standard Shopify mechanisms, which is why agentic checkouts pick most of them up automatically. AI agents don't run a parallel checkout; they delegate to Shopify's checkout, the same one your storefront uses.
Bulk price editor campaigns update the product's price and compare-at price directly in Shopify. These are the same fields Shopify's product catalog feeds to every channel — your storefront, POS, Google Shopping, and the AI surfaces — so the agent already knows the sale price during the conversation, before checkout even begins.
Quantity discount, Cart goal, Buy X Get Y, Advanced discount code, and shipping discount campaigns apply at checkout through Shopify Functions, which run on Shopify's checkout backend unchanged, whether the cart is built by a human on your storefront or by an AI agent. For Advanced discount code campaigns, the Function still only fires once a valid code has been submitted — by the customer or the agent relaying it.
What this means for you today
Bulk price editor, Quantity discount, Cart goal, Buy X Get Y, and shipping discount campaigns work in agentic checkouts with no merchant action required.
Bulk price editor campaign changes are visible to the agent during product discovery — the agent can quote the sale price in the conversation.
Advanced discount code campaigns still need a code: the customer has to have or request one, and either enter it themselves or have the agent submit it in the chat.
AI agents don't yet surface Discounty's campaign rules proactively — for example, they won't suggest "add one more item to save 20%" before checkout, or interpret your discount rules to recommend actions. That depends on how the AI platforms develop their agent capabilities, not on a setting in Discounty.
A note on widgets
Discounty's storefront widgets — Saving on cart, countdown timers, shipping progress bars, and the quantity and cart goal widget — are part of your Shopify theme, and AI agents don't render the theme. The discount itself still applies for the customer; only the visual elements you've configured for your storefront aren't shown inside the chat.
Why this works without extra configuration
Some discount apps rely on non-standard mechanisms — creating draft orders, injecting JavaScript on the storefront theme, or applying discounts only through specific URL parameters. Those approaches don't carry over to agentic checkout, because AI agents don't follow draft-order flows or render the storefront theme. Discounty uses Shopify's native pricing mechanisms and Shopify Functions, so compatibility comes built in.
