Why is the Quantity discount or Cart goal campaign not applying? Troubleshooting guide
A step-by-step checklist to find why a Quantity discount or Cart goal campaign isn't applying in the cart or at checkout.
A Quantity discount or Cart goal campaign lowers the price automatically when a customer's cart reaches a tier. If your campaign isn't applying in the cart or at checkout, one of its conditions isn't being met. Work through the checks below in order to find the reason.
Applies to: Discounty Quantity discount and Cart goal campaigns. Both work the same way, so the checks are the same for either type.
1. The campaign isn't Active
How to check: open Campaigns and check the campaign's status. The discount applies only while it's Active.
How to fix:
Scheduled: the campaign starts at its start date and time. To start it now, open it and click Activate.
Expired: the campaign has ended or was deactivated. Open it and click Activate.
Blocked: the campaign goes beyond what your current plan includes, for example more than one discount tier (available on the Essential plan and above). The campaign page explains why. Upgrade your plan, or edit the campaign so it fits your plan.
Error: hover over the status to see the details. Deactivate the campaign, fix the cause, and activate it again, or contact support.
Queued, Retrieving, Applying, Reverting, Auto updating or Updating products: Discounty is working on the campaign. Wait until it becomes Active.
See Campaign statuses in Discounty for what each status means.
2. The product or variant isn't in the campaign
How to check: open the campaign's Products card and confirm the item in the cart matches your filter (All store, Collections, Product tags, Vendors, Product types or Products and variants) and isn't under Excludes. If you added the product to your store or collection after activating the campaign, and Auto-update the campaign's products when items are added or removed from your store. is off, the campaign doesn't include it yet.
Also check whether another active campaign already discounts the product. A product gets at most one Quantity discount or Cart goal campaign, so the product stays with the campaign that was active first. On the page of an active campaign, a banner titled "Some products already have a discount" appears when this happens. Click See which products to see each product and the campaign discounting it, with its current status. This check runs once, when the campaign is activated. A product listed as discounted by "A campaign that is no longer active" stays out even after that campaign ended.
How to fix:
On the Discounty plan and above, click Sync products on the active campaign. Discounty fetches its products again and re-checks conflicts, and the status shows Updating products until it's done.
You can also deactivate and activate the campaign, or turn on auto-update. Auto-update picks products up on its next run, not right away.
If another running campaign holds the product, decide which campaign should apply to it.
3. The Shopify automatic discount was deleted or renamed
How to check: go to Shopify admin → Discounts, filter by Method = Automatic, and look for the discount Discounty created:
Most Quantity discount and Cart goal campaigns in a store share one automatic discount named Discounty 1 [DO NOT DELETE].
A campaign limited to specific customer segments, or using same-line stacking, has its own automatic discount named <campaign name> [Discounty stacking].
If the discount your campaign relies on is missing or was renamed, that's the cause.
How to fix: never rename or delete a Discounty automatic discount. If it's missing, deactivate the campaign in Discounty and activate it again to recreate it, then check again. If it's still missing, contact our support team.
4. Your store reached Shopify's limit of 25 active automatic discounts
How to check: in Shopify admin → Discounts, filter by Status = Active and Method = Automatic, and count the entries. Shopify allows up to 25 active automatic discounts at the same time, including those created by other apps. When your store is at the limit, the campaign can go to Error with "Your store has reached its automatic-discount limit. Disable another app discount and retry."
How to fix: turn off automatic discounts you no longer need (in Shopify or the app that created them), then deactivate and activate your Discounty campaign so it can create its discount. See Is there a limit on the number of campaigns I can create?
5. The sales channel doesn't match
How to check: open the campaign's Sales channels card. It's a single choice: Online and POS (the default), Online or POS. If the setting doesn't cover the channel the order came through, the discount doesn't apply to that order. For example, the campaign is set to Online but the sale happened at a POS register. Changing the sales channel is available on the Discounty plan and above. See How do Discounty discounts work with Shopify POS?
How to fix: deactivate the campaign, change Sales channels to include the channel you need, and activate it again. Automatic discounts on POS also need POS Pro: "Automatic discounts on POS require POS Pro. Locations with POS Lite will not apply this discount."
6. The purchase type doesn't match
How to check: open the campaign's Purchase type card: One-time purchase, Subscription or Both (the default). Only cart lines that match the purchase type count toward the tiers and get the discount. A subscription line is skipped if the campaign is set to One-time purchase, and the other way around. Choosing One-time purchase or Subscription is available on the Essential plan and above. See How do I apply a discount only to subscription (or one-time) purchases?
How to fix: purchase type can't be changed while the campaign is Active. Deactivate it, set Purchase type to Both or the type you intended, and activate it again.
7. The customer isn't eligible
How to check: open the campaign's Customer selection card. If it's set to Specific customer segments instead of All customers, only customers in one of the selected Shopify customer segments get the discount. Guests who aren't logged in, and customers outside those segments, don't get it. Customer segments are available on the Discounty plan and above. See How do I limit a Discounty campaign to specific customer segments?
How to fix: deactivate the campaign, add segments or switch to All customers, and activate it again. Or make sure the customer is logged in with an account that belongs to a selected segment.
8. The cart hasn't reached a tier
How to check: open the campaign's Discount conditions card. It decides which cart items count together toward a tier:
Mix of products (the default): all eligible items in the cart count together.
Same product, any variant: items of the same product count together, including different variants. Items of different products don't add up.
Same variants: each variant counts on its own. You need enough of the same variant to reach a tier.
Some items can reach a tier and still get no discount:
With New price, an item already priced at or below the new price gets no discount.
With Fixed amount taken off each item, an item cheaper than the amount gets no discount.
How to fix: add enough qualifying items to reach the lowest tier under the selected condition. If the condition isn't what you intended, deactivate the campaign, change Discount conditions, and activate it again.
9. Campaign combinations don't allow it
How to check: open the campaign's Campaign combinations card. A Quantity discount or Cart goal campaign can combine only with Discounty's Bulk price editor campaigns. Quantity discount and Cart goal campaigns never combine with each other: a product gets at most one of them. If the discount type is New price, the campaign also can't be combined with a Bulk price editor campaign. The app shows "The campaign can't be combined with "Price rule" when the discount is set to 'new price'".
How to fix: to let a product get both a Bulk price editor price and this discount, tick Discounty's Bulk price editor campaigns in this campaign and Discounty's Quantity discount and Cart goal campaigns in the Bulk price editor campaign. Campaign combinations are available on the Discounty plan and above. For two Quantity discount or Cart goal campaigns on the same product, decide which one should apply. See How do Discounty campaigns combine with each other, Shopify discounts, and third-party app discounts?
10. Another product discount gives a bigger discount on the same item
How to check: when an item qualifies for two or more product discounts, for example this campaign plus a Buy X get Y reward, an Advanced discount code or another app's discount, Shopify applies only the best one to that cart line. If the other discount is bigger, your Quantity discount or Cart goal doesn't show on that item.
How to fix: to apply both discounts to the same item, use same-line stacking: in the Campaign combinations card, under the Bulk price editor option, tick Allow stacking on the exact same product(s) and choose the Buy X get Y or Advanced discount code campaigns to stack with. Same-line stacking needs Shopify Plus and the Discounty plan and above. A campaign can stack with up to 10 other campaigns. See How do I stack two product discounts on the same item?
11. The storefront or checkout shows an old cart
How to check: remove all products from the cart, hard-refresh the storefront (or open it in a private or incognito window), then add the qualifying products again.
How to fix: if the discount now applies, the earlier miss came from a cached page and no further action is needed.
12. The widget shows the discount but checkout doesn't (or the other way around)
How to check: the Quantity/Value table on your product page shows your tiers; the cart and checkout show what actually applies. If the widget and the cart don't agree, work through checks 1–11 against what happens in the cart, not the widget. If the widget doesn't appear at all, that's usually an app embed issue. See How to activate Discounty widgets on your Shopify store? and How to set up and customize the Quantity/Value table widget in Discounty?
How to fix: once the cart and checkout apply the discount correctly, a widget difference is a display issue. Follow the widget guides above instead of repeating this checklist.
