Tips to manage your Discounty campaigns effectively
Practical, lifecycle-organized tips for Discounty campaigns, each tied to the exact in-app control it uses.
A few habits make campaigns easier to run and keep your prices safe: test before going storewide, avoid overlapping campaigns, and schedule end dates. The tips below follow a campaign from planning to cleanup, and each one names the exact setting in the app.
Product selection & overlaps
Test on a subset before you go store-wide
Rather than pointing a new campaign at All store right away, start with the Products and variants filter (or Some variants if a collection or tag has more items than you want to include yet) and confirm the discount applies as expected. Once you're confident, switch the filter to Collections, Product types, Product tags, or Vendors to scale up, or open the filter back to All store.
Add new products with a new campaign, not by editing the live one
If a campaign is already active and you want to add more products, don't edit it — click Duplicate to create a new campaign with the same discount settings and filters, then adjust its product selection. As long as Campaign combinations is off (the default), Discounty automatically skips any product already discounted by the original campaign, so only the new products receive the discount and you don't reprocess everything that's already running.
Know the Single Campaign Rule
By default, a product can only be discounted by one active campaign at a time. If a second campaign also targets that product, Discounty marks the product as conflicted and shows: "Some products in this campaign are already discounted by another active campaign, so they won't receive this discount." This check covers Bulk price editor, Quantity discount, and Cart goal campaigns — the campaign that was activated first keeps the product. Buy X Get Y campaigns are checked separately: if a product is already used as the "X" item in another Buy X get Y campaign, Discounty flags it with "This product is already used as X in another Buy X Get Y campaign." If you want two discounts to apply to the same product on purpose, turn on Campaign combinations for the campaigns involved; otherwise, keep product selections from overlapping across your active campaigns. For more on Buy X get Y overlap, see FAQs about Buy X get Y (BXGY) campaigns.
Group similar-priced products in tiered campaigns
When setting up a Quantity discount or Cart goal campaign, group products with similar prices under the same filters. This keeps discount tiers logical for customers, keeps margins consistent across the group, and avoids over-discounting your highest-value items.
Limit a campaign to specific customers
Under Customer selection, choose Specific customer segments instead of All customers to target a campaign at a defined audience rather than your whole customer base. This is available on selected plans. See How do I limit a Discounty campaign to specific customer segments? for how to build segments.
Don't manually change prices during a Bulk price editor campaign
Bulk price editor campaigns save each product's original price and compare-at price so they can be restored when the campaign ends. Changing prices manually — or through another tool — while the campaign is active risks breaking that restore step, being overwritten by the campaign itself, or producing inconsistent prices. If you need to update prices while a Bulk price editor campaign is running, deactivate the campaign first, make your changes, then reactivate it.
Scheduling & time zones
Set an end date to keep a campaign on a clock
Turning on Set end date and filling in End date and End time makes the campaign expire on its own instead of running indefinitely. This is available on selected plans. Start date, Start time, End date, and End time are entered in your browser's current time zone and stored as a single point in time; if you open the app later from a different time zone, the times you see shift to match it, but the campaign still starts and ends at the same actual moment. For the full breakdown, see Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
Use filters and auto-update so new products aren't missed
If you filter a campaign by Collections or Product types instead of hand-picking products, turn on Auto-update the campaign's products when items are added or removed from your store. so products that later match your filters are added automatically, and ones that stop matching are removed and revert to their original price. This option is available on selected plans. It runs on a schedule rather than instantly: Discounty checks for eligible campaigns every 30 minutes, and each campaign is re-checked no sooner than 2 hours after its previous update — in practice, expect a store change to be reflected within about 2 hours. If you don't want to wait for the next scheduled check, you can run the update yourself with Sync products on an active Bulk price editor, Quantity discount or Cart goal campaign (available on plans that include it). Without auto-update, the product list is fixed at activation time, and you'll need to deactivate and reactivate the campaign to pick up changes.
Editing live campaigns
Know what you can change while a campaign is Active
While a campaign's status is Active, you can only change its End date and End time, its countdown timers, and auto-update. The app shows "You can only change end time of an active campaign. You have to deactivate the campaign to edit other fields." To change anything else (product selection, discount value, filters, and so on), deactivate the campaign, make your edits, and reactivate it. While a campaign is processing — status Queued, Retrieving, Applying, Reverting, or Auto updating — everything except the end date and time and the countdown timers is locked until processing finishes.
Keep campaigns smaller if you edit them often
Deactivating and reactivating a campaign updates its product variants one at a time, so the more variants a campaign covers, the longer that process takes — and campaigns in the same store are processed one after another, so a large campaign can hold up the next one in the queue. If your store has many variants and you frequently need to change a running campaign, splitting it into a few smaller campaigns makes each edit cycle faster and keeps one campaign's reprocessing from delaying the rest.
Widgets & visibility
Turn widgets on and style them from Customization
A campaign's discount doesn't automatically show a storefront widget — each widget has its own Display widget on store toggle. From the Customization page you can style each one: the Quantity/Value table (tiered discount table), Shipping progress bar, Saving on cart, the Buy X get Y pop-up and its Buy X get Y floating button, and the Starts in / Ends in countdown timers. See How to activate Discounty widgets on your Shopify store? to get started, plus the dedicated guides for the How to set up and customize the Quantity/Value table widget in Discounty?, the How do I use the Shipping progress bar widget to offer free shipping?, and the Saving on cart widget.
Only one homepage countdown timer shows at a time
If you turn on Set "starts in" countdown timer or Set "ends in" countdown timer with the homepage display option for more than one campaign, only one shows at a time: "You can display only one countdown timer on the homepage at a time. If another Discounty campaign already has one, it will be replaced." Countdown timers are available on selected plans. See Countdown timers: homepage and product page.
Measuring with Analytics
Read your numbers on the Analytics page
Today, full campaign analytics are available for Bulk price editor campaigns. From your campaign's analytics you can see Discount campaign revenue (total revenue from campaign-included items, in orders that had at least one discounted campaign item), Orders (the count of those orders), AOV — average order value across them — and Sales by product, a breakdown of units sold and revenue per product. Discounty does not report click-through rate or conversion rate, so don't rely on this page for those figures. Analytics for Quantity discount, Cart goal, Shipping discount, Buy X get Y, and Advanced discount code campaigns is on the way. See How do I use Discounty's Analytics dashboard?, and How does Discounty calculate Revenue, Orders and the other analytics numbers?.
Cleanup & deactivation
Deactivate campaigns you're done with
Select the checkbox next to one or more campaigns on the Campaigns page and click Deactivate campaigns. Each campaign expires immediately, its discount stops applying, and prices revert to their original values — but the campaign itself is kept, so you can still edit it and reactivate it later, and its order and revenue history stays intact.
Delete campaigns only once they're no longer active
Delete campaign is available for campaigns that are Scheduled, Expired, or Blocked. Active campaigns cannot be deleted — the app shows "Active campaigns cannot be deleted" if you try. Deactivate a campaign first if you want to delete it.
